ANTM Cycle 10 - Episode 9
Benvenuto a Roma!
The girls arrive in Rome and do a little sightseeing. Tyra sends word that their new apartment is ready and waiting, so the girls check out their new Italian pad. Fatima falls ill and spends the evening in bed, complaining about a sore throat and feeling congested. The girls wake up early the next morning to Lauren rummaging through her luggage and making a lot of noise.
Italian Fashion
The next morning, the ladies arrive in a piazza and are introduced to Claudio Brassini, assistant designer to Italian designer, Gai Mattiolo. He takes the girls on a fashion tour in Rome, while riding on Segway PT’s, a two-wheeled, scooter-like transportation device, and points out random Italian women. He shows them how Italian women dress very stylish and glamorous.
The tour ends in the Piazza Di Spagna, translated to mean the Spanish Steps, a location where one of the largest fashion shows in the industry takes place. The girls are told that they are going to be meeting Gai Mattiolo, but will be getting a mini Italian makeover first. The six remaining ladies are given designer outfits to change into, are then introduced to Gai Mattiolo and asked to perform their runway walk, while trying their best to look confident and sheik.
Gai Mattiolo says that Fatima is very elegant and that Anya has a fresh look, while Dominique looks very natural and Lauren has beautiful legs. After the girls walk for Gai, he picks Anya as the winner of the challenge and rewards her with one of his red carpet event gowns.
Facile, Brezza, Bella (Easy, Breezy, Beautiful)
Back at the apartment, the girls receive Tyra Mail, informing them that it’s time for a CoverGirl commercial. While they seem excited, Lauren is dreading the upcoming challenge.
Jay Manuel meets the girls the next morning in an Italian coffee shop and explains that they will be filming a 30-second commercial for CoverGirl Queen Collection Vibrant Hues Lip Color. The kicker? The entire script is in Italian.
Piersandro Buzzanca, commercial director, walks the girls through the way he wants the commercial to run. Anya has a lot of trouble with the script and Jay feels that she looks lost throughout her shots. Katarzyna nails the Italian dialog, but Jay says that her performance is dull and lifeless.
Dominique did not know the script at all, but Jay says that she maintains a good energy. Lauren looks extremely awkward and mumbles through her lines, while Fatima does a fantastic job and has the best Italian pronunciation. Whitney doesn’t impress Jay, as he feels that she comes off very fake.
The Final Judgement
The girls meet the panel, including guest judge Piersandro Buzzanca, in a new Italian judging room. The panel is impressed by Fatima and feel that she grasped the Italian dialog beautifully, while they say that Whitney needs to work on her sincerity. Nigel thinks that Anya looks confused in her commercial and that Lauren didn’t try very hard. Piersandro says that Dominique brought incredible energy to her performance and that Katarzyna really looked like an Italian woman. Katarzyna gives the panel a lesson on how to properly pronounce her name. Hey judges, it’s Ka-tar-zy-na!
The judges deliberate and feel that Whitney and Lauren are the weakest of the group this week. Tyra tells both Whitney and Lauren that they take beautiful pictures, but that she feels Whitney needs to show more of the real her and that Lauren looks like she gave up. In the end, the judges feel that Whitney still has something that they want to see. Arrivederci, Lauren!
