Are You Not Entertained?
The girls are taken to an ancient ruin site and see a group of trained gladiators fighting each other. Alex Mariotti, fight instructor at the Gladiator School of Rome, introduces himself and gives the girls some lessons in combat fighting. He demonstrates five poses and has the girls practice, while telling them to show composure and elegance in their movements.
Next, the ladies get changed into their gladiator wardrobe and meet Jay Manuel and Miss J. outside for a photoshoot challenge. The challenge is to fight with a real gladiator and look aggressive, but beautiful in only five frames.
Anya sticks to the poses that Alex taught them and looks nice, while Katarzyna’s stance looks weak. Both Jay and Miss J. love Whitney’s reel, as she looks comfortable and keeps her body open to the shot. Fatima forgets the poses that were shown to them and ends up blocking her face from the camera, while Dominique takes a nice picture, but ignores the point of the challenge and makes up her own poses. The judges choose Whitney as the winner and she brings Anya along as they are both given $500 to spend in Rome.
Renaissance Meets Rock Star
The next day, the girls arrive at Castello di Torre, a more than 600-year-old castle with Renaissance frescos covering the walls inside. Jay Manuel meets them and informs the ladies that the interiors of the castle will be the location of this week’s photoshoot. While the girls are getting ready, Tyra surprises them and says that she’s going to be taking their pictures. The girls show their enthusiasm, but know that the pressure is on.
Tyra’s vision for the photoshoot is Renaissance meets rock star and she wants a lot of exaggeration in the poses. Katarzyna is first and ends up giving Tyra some Egyptian poses, despite guidance from Tyra and Jay. Dominique resembles Cruella D’Ville after her makeup and wardrobe change, but she definitely delivers when the camera hits her and Tyra is impressed.
Tyra says that Fatima looks very fluid in her poses and reminds her of a ballerina, while Whitney gets stuck in her poses and Tyra says that she looks a little “hoochie.” Anya gives Tyra many poses to work with and does a stunning job.
Five Become Four
At the panel, Tyra confesses that was nervous photographing the girls because it was her first time using artificial light. Miss J. says that Anya’s photo looks like Italian Vogue and Tyra adds that she only had to give minimal direction and it turned out great.
Nigel says that Fatima’s picture looks incredible and Tyra says that she was beautiful to watch. Tyra tells Dominique that she really impressed her and Nigel says that it’s her best shot. Miss J. says that something is missing from Katarzyna’s picture and Paulina says that she looks bored, while they both tell Whitney that they were expecting more from her. Tyra says that she posed too much during the shoot.
After the judges deliberate, they decide that Katarzyna and Whitney are the bottom two this week. Tyra tells Katarzyna she takes nice pictures, but not fantastic ones and that the judges feel that she’s just coasting along. Tyra then tells Whitney that she has a gorgeous face and body, but that it doesn’t always come through in her pictures. In the end though, the judges still have faith in Whitney. Ciao, Katarzyna!
