What Happens in Vegas - ANTM Heads to Sin City for the Semifinals

America’s Next Top Model has returned for another season of fashion, photography, and runway. Thirty-four lucky girls have traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada for the semifinals. However, only thirteen of them will continue on in hopes of becoming America’s Next Top Model. This Goddess-themed trip is filmed at Caesar’s Palace and includes two photo shoots and one catfight.
First Photo Shoot - Profiles
The semifinalists are excited to meet two ANTM icons - Miss J and Mr. Jay. The Jays inform the girls that they need to change out of their street clothes and into Roman-inspired mini-dresses and gold heels. The girls are thrown into their first photo shoot, where they will give their best profile. Photographer Jessica Brooks takes the pictures while the girls begin to get to know each other.
When their photo shoot is over, they meet with Miss J so he can assess their walks. Many of the girls let their nerves get the best of them and don’t look like they can walk. That evening, they are standing around the pool with the Jays when a parade of Spartan men approaches with the Goddess of Fierce herself, Tyra Banks.
Facing the Panels and Eliminations
Each girl gets an opportunity to speak one-on-one with Miss J, Mr. J, and Tyra Banks. It is an opportunity for them to show the judges their passion for modeling, as well as their runway walk, special skills, and how their bodies look in bikinis. The girls each have a different story and unique outlooks on the world, from a street preacher to a conspiracy theorist. Tahlia has a particularly brave story, as she told the judges about how she was burned over much of her body when she was a baby and has had 14 surgeries.
There are 34 girls in Las Vegas, but only 21 of them are going to move onto the next round. Tyra, Miss J, and Mr. Jay have deliberated and made their choices. The Jays tell them that there is a box with the name of each girl. If the box contains a golden wreath, they will move on to the next round and have another photo shoot.
Second Photo Shoot - Embodying a Goddess
The twenty-one remaining semifinalists are each assigned a different goddess, known for a particular attribute. They have to convey that ideal during the shoot, from justice to love to madness. The girls each do their own hair and makeup before the shoot. Mr. Jay gives the girls a little bit of coaching, but lets them show their natural ability.
On the set, Angelea rolls her eyes and Sandra calls her on it. Sandra continues to insult Angelea’s nails and attitude, while Angelea puts her hand in Sandra’s face. They proceed to start yelling at each other while the photographer and Mr. Jay look on at the unprofessional display. Jay finally speaks up and tells them to ignore the nonsense.
The Final Thirteen Girls Are Announced
Only 13 girls are going to make it into the house, so eight still have to be eliminated. The judges deliberate over the photographs as well as the attitudes and energy of the girls. They gather and Tyra announces the final thirteen girls - Fo, Celia, Sandra, London, Natalie, Thalia, Jessica, Allison, Teyonna, Aminat, Isabella, Kortnie and Nijah. She gives the eliminated girls a pep talk about their potential and tells them not to give up if this is their passion.
