The Amazing Model Race -- ANTM Lands in Brazil

The CW’s hit reality show, America’s Next Top Model, is traveling to Brazil in its twelfth season. On last week’s episode, the girls had a photo shoot with singer Ciera. This week, they are packing their bags and heading to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Only six girls remain in the running to become America’s Next Top Model -- Celia, Allison, Teyona, Aminat, Fo and Natalie.
Finding the Girl From Ipanema
Host of Brazil’s Next Top Model, supermodel Fernanda Motta, meets the models and tells them they need to find one of the most recognizable figures from Brazil, Helo Pinheiro. She is the woman described in the song The Girl from Ipanema. They have to go to her favorite flower shop to pick up her favorite flower, and then be the first to arrive.
The models pair up to compete. Teyona and Aminat, Natalie and Fo, and Allison and Celia hop into three taxis and fly to the flower shop. Fo and Natalie arrive first and pick up the bird of paradise flower. They are the first team to arrive at the gardens. Their prize is waiting for them at their Brazil home. Helo explains that it is important for the girls to learn to move, because that is what inspired the song.
Learning Movement and Posing Through Capoeira
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that uses music and strong dance elements. Capoeira master Mestre Eddy Murphy meets the girls to teach them the basic skills. It can help them create strong shapes in their posing as well as building confidence. While the models are competing in pairs, Mr. Jay and Miss J. arrive to give them a photo challenge. Each girl has to create a photograph that looks like they are fighting but still a model.
Fo’s prize for winning the photo shoot is that she receives 50 percent more frames than the other girls. However, those frames come at the expense of another girl. Fo chooses Teyona to have 50 percent less frames than the others, because she is still annoyed that Teyona chose Celia to share the prize last week.
Recreating Carmen Miranda in a Photo Shoot
Mr. Jay Manuel meets the girls and explains that they will be styled like Carmen Miranda for their photo shoot. They are going to try to embody her sex appeal and spirit. Daniel Klajmic, a top Brazilian photographer, will be shooting them. The ANTM makeup artist, Sutan, explained more of Carmen Miranda’s spirit to the girls. Bright makeup, ruffles, and fruit headpieces dominated the looks.
Celia was the first girl up and though she looked beautiful, Jay didn’t think there was anything genius about the shoot. Allison brought something different and playful to set. Natalie was fixated on the fact that they were in a poor area of town. For the third week in a row, Aminat was stiff and closed down on set. Though Teyona only had 25 frames, she still brought her best to set. On the other hand, Fo gave too much and needed to tone down.
Facing the Judges for Elimination
Regular judges Tyra Banks, Nigel Barker, J. Alexander, and Paulina Porizkova are joined by Fernanda Motta for this week’s judging. Allison’s name is called first, because she embodied the spirit of the shoot while looking like a model. She is followed by Teyona, Fo, and Celia. Aminat and Natalie are called forward to face Tyra. Though Aminat has all the makings of a model, she continues to do poorly in photographs. Meanwhile, Natalie seems to only pose and never inspires the photographer. Aminat’s photograph is revealed and Natalie is sent home.
