America's Best Dance Crew FinaleRandy Jackson's Reality Dance Show Crowns Season 4 Champ
It was an all-around season of firsts as two underdog crews went head-to-head for the title of America's Best Dance Crew and the $100,000 prize.
It was the fourth go ‘round of the MTV hit America’s Best Dance Crew. The Randy Jackson produced reality dance show wrapped up another season, which saw its premier on August 9, 2009. The Original Nine Crews ReturnFor the season ender, all nine dance crews came back to show their stuff. The returning crews were Fr3sh from New Jersey, Artistry in Motion from California, Southern Movement from Tennessee, Beat Ya Feet Kings from Washington D.C., Vogue Evolution from New York, Rhythm City from New York, Massive Monkeys from Washington, Afroborike from Puerto Rico, We Are Heroes from California. America's Best Dance Crew Finale FirstFor the first time in the show’s history, the coveted ABDC trophy will be going to either an all Latino crew or an all girl crew. The Ensemble PerformancesTo kick off the finale, the each of the judges put three crews together for a group performance. Rapper Lil Mama picked Vogue Evolution, We Are Heroes, and Artistry In Motion. Former NSYNC member, J.C. Chasez chose Afroborike, Rhythm City, and Fr3sh. Choreographer Shane Sparks’ group performance crews were Southern Movement, Beat Ya Feet Kings, and Massive Monkeys. Each of the performances was high energy and unique. The Two FinalistsThe signature styles of the two last crews standing show just how far America’s Best Dance Crew has come in just four short years. The sexy Latin couple dance style of Afroborike and the crisp popping moves of the ladies of We Are Heroes demonstrate the show’s willingness to welcome and accommodate more than just straight forward b-boy moves. Both Afroborike and We Are Heroes were probably the most unlikely finalist of the season. Afroborike was always regarded as the underdog due to their lack of hip-hop inspired moves. Host Mario Lopez said that Afroborike, with their Latin flavor and island rhythm, challenged the audience to “think outside the box”. Regarding We Are Heroes, they literally were the underdogs. The all girl crew was in the bottom two crews three different times and faced elimination. Thanks to the judges, they went on to dance another week. Not only were the home viewers a little lax in their voting for We Are Heroes, but two of their 5 crew members battled back from injuries - a sprained back ligament and a concussion. ABDC Season Four ChampionsAs the first all-female crew to win America’s Best Dance Crew, We Are Heroes added their names to the list of ABDC champs, along with JabbaWockeeZ, SuperCr3w and Quest Crew. Season Five is slated to kick off in January 2010, and if this season was any indication, season five is likely to be one filled with unexpected surprises.
