American Idol: Top 3 of 36Twelve Performed But Only Three Advance to the Next Round
The highest scoring male and female contestants advance to the top 12, as well as the third highest scoring singer.
Twenty-four million people voted for their favorite contestants from group one, but only three singers made it through and are that much closer to being named Season 8's American Idol. Host Ryan Seacrest described the show as "raw" after a few technical glitches and not so strong performances by some of the Idol hopefuls during the live production on FOX. You can read the re-cap here. Eliminated From the CompetitionCasey Carlson, who sang "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" by The Police, was the first to be eliminated from the competition. Also cut was Steven Fowler performed "Rock With You" made famous by Michael Jackson. During the results show, he admitted tonight it may have been the wrong song for him. "The Dark Horse" According to SimonJudge Simon Cowell calls her a dark horse in the competition. This after Alexis Grace sang "Never Loved a Man" by Aretha Franklin. The single-mom later learned her performance landed her into the top 12. "Thank you so much," she said to the live audience. Her father cried as she performed the same song once again. Three More Bit The DustRicky Braddy sang "A Song for You" by Leon Russell. Randy and Kara thought it was a difficult song. Simon said he lacked star quality. Guess Simon had it right; because, Ricky was eliminated from the competition. Simon said she played the clown during her performance of "A Little Less Conversation" by Elvis Presley. Jackie Tohn said she disagreed with Simon, and would have done it all over again. Giving herself a 91-percent for her own performance. America didn't agree as Jackie was also eliminated. Anoop Desai sang "Angel of Mine" by Monica. The judges say it wasn't his best performance. America agreed as he too was sent home. One of the Top 12Michael Sarver chose to sing Gavin DeGraw's hit "I Don't Want to Be" for America's votes. Even though it wasn't his best performance, Simon said he hoped America would give Michael another chance because people can relate to him. America listened. Michael advanced to the top 12. Upon learning the news, he fell to his knees, then quickly got up and performed the song once again. Five Left, Only One More Makes it ThroughAnn Marie Boskovich was one of the those contestants awaiting her fate. She performed "Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin. Also waiting for the results was Brent Keith who sang "Hicktown" by Jason Aldean, and Stevie Wright who performed "You Belonged to Me" by Taylor Swift. When Ryan asked him which of three deserved to go on, Randy said none of them performed up to par. All three were then eliminated. Danny versus TatianaThere's only one more spot open from group one and it's going either to Danny Gokey or Tatiana Del Toro. Danny sang "Hero" by Mariah Carey. Tatiana performed "Saving All My Love for You" by Whitney Houston. Of the two, Paula said Danny deserved to advance. After the commercial break, we learned Danny made it through, sending Tatiana home. A shocked Tatiana looked like she was going to pass out at which point Ryan asked if she was okay. She cried during Danny's performance. Top Three From Group OneSo Danny Gokey, Michael Sarver, and Alexis Grace are the first three contestants to make up Season 8's top 12. Group two, the next group of twelve, performs next.
