The final three singers visit their hometowns; Katy Perry and Jordan Sparks perform; The judges table is inducted in to the Smithsonian
On the May 13, 2009 episode of American Idol, 1 of 3 Voted Off, the final two singers were revealed. Videos were shown of all the singers going home, and the season six winner of American Idol, Jordan Sparks, performed. The EliminationEighty eight million people voted this week, and less than a million votes separated number two from number three. The first person named safe was Kris Allen. All of the judges looked shocked. Simon’s eyes nearly bugged out of his head, and Kara mouthed, “Oh my God.” The second person named safe was Adam Lambert. You could tell the judges were praying Adam’s named was called, and Kara really looked confused by the final two standing. She clapped, but she couldn’t stop saying, “Oh my God.” The Idols Go HomeEach of the singers got the chance to go home and promote themselves before the final episodes. Of course all of the trips were insane. Danny’s video was shown first. He went home to crowds of people in Milwaukee and was interviewed on the local news program. Danny also reunited with his friend Jamar, who was cut in the final roads of the auditions. The two road together in the parade thrown in Danny’s honor. Kris went home to Arkansas. He landed at night but there were still thousands of people waiting to greet him at the airport and outside of the news station where he taped his interview. Kris gave away tickets (to the finale I’m guessing) on a local radio station, and he visited his family at their home. Adam visited his hometown of San Diego. He visited the local radio show, signed a ton of autographs and showed a local weather girl how to put on eyeliner Adam-style. A big thing for Adam was visiting the theater were he grew up performing. He was greeted by a lot of young performers, gave them some advice and received a plaque in his honor. Celebrities Stop ByThere were several celebrity guest stars on the night’s results show. The stars of Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian were on hand to plug their new movie. Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader and Hank Azaria inducted the American Idol judges’ desk in to the Smithsonian. Ryan later joked that Simon’s baby T-shirt collection would also be inducted. R&B singer Alicia Keyes stopped by to introduce a boy named Noah. Noah lives in Rwanda and dreams of someday making an album that will help kids in his country fight HIV/AIDS. He performed R. Kelly’s The World’s Greatest, and it was pretty good for only having learned the English version one week ago. Jordan Sparks performed her new song Battlefield. One Republic’s Ryan Tedder performed the piano along side Jordan. Katy Perry was the final performer. She performed her new hit Waking Up in Vegas in true Vegas fashion, showgirls and all.
