Week 9 is explosive on Celebrity Apprentice! The teams create a marketing campaign for Right Guard Deodorant. Joan Rivers calls contestant a dumb blonde and storms out.
As the winning project manager from last week, Jesse James gives his charity a check for $20,000. He's playing for the Long Beach Education Foundation, a charity that helps rebuild industrial arts programs for intercity kids. Jesse reminded us that “you can’t fix the world’s problems unless you fix what’s on your doorstep first.” Celebrity Apprentice Teams ReorganizedSince the teams are unbalanced, Donald Trump decided to move Jesse to KOTU with Joan Rivers and Clint Black. Melissa Rivers laments that she wishes she wasn’t left on the team with “the mean girls from high school” (meaning Annie Duke and Brande Roderick). Melissa feels that Annie and Brande are trying to set her up to fail. The teams must create a four-page print ad for Right Guard Deodorant. The ad must include David Lee, a power forward for the Knicks. The ad will be featured in Sports Illustrated and si.com. The winning project manager will receive $20,000 for his or her charity. Team KOTU BrainstormsClint immediately volunteers to be project manager for KOTU. Joan suggests an ad using David Lee (a white man) surrounded by a group of black players. The tone is considered too racist and is wisely dismissed by Clint. Since David Lee is from a small town, Jesse suggests using the New York skyline in the ad to depict the "big town" that David Lee must play in. Clint takes Jesse's suggestions and adds the patented power stripe technology that Right Guard has in place. He uses a bold stripe of orange along the side of the ad to coincide with the packaging of the product. Jesse James Loses His TemperBrande is the project manager on Athena. She quickly assigns Annie the tasks of brand messaging, copywriting, and presentation. Melissa tries to start brainstorming and the team doesn’t seem receptive. They remain silent while she talks. Annie comes up with the idea of David Lee holding a basketball up to his chest without a shirt on. At the last hour, Clint is pulling suggestions from the team. Jesse has mentally checked out, and begins to swear at Clint, calling him stupid. Jesse is upset that Clint did not use 100% of his ideas. Jesse Admits Dislike for ClintThe teams present their campaigns to the executives at Right Guard. KOTU's ideas were well received. They liked the use of the orange color to tie in with the product packaging. On the other hand, Athena did a nice job of linking their campaign to the NBA. In boardroom, Clint says Jesse is not a team player. Jesse reiterates his dislike for Clint, and then said Joan was a great team player. He joked that there was a lot of “sexual tension” between the two of them. Melissa talks about her feelings that Brande and Annie were conspiring against her. Jesse feels his team did a poor job, but when he saw both presentations, he knew he would win. He was right. KOTU wins and Clint gets $20,000 for his charity, the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. Joan Outraged That Melissa is FiredEach member of Athena argues their case for staying on. It almost looks like Brande will be fired when suddenly she reminds Trump that she has raised the second-most money out of anyone there. Trump then jots something on a note and hands it to Jim Kramer. It seems the money issue helped him make up his mind. Melissa is fired. Joan, watching from the other room, is outraged. She storms off, calling Brande a dumb blonde. She says that Annie has "blood on her hands" from player poker. Melissa shouts throughout the hallway that Brande and Annie are "whore pit vipers." She refuses to give an exit interview. Her shouts can be heard from the boardroom. Next week: Will Joan return and be part of the final four? Trump narrows the field and selects his final two contestants.
