Donald Trump narrows the field to the final four. Piers Morgan steps in to interview the celebs and give Trump his opinion. Will Trump listen?
As the episode begins, the teams are reeling from Melissa Rivers' outburst last week in calling Brande Roderick and Annie Duke "whore pit vipers." The groups are wondering whether Joan Rivers, who stormed out after her daughter and threatened to quit, would be back for the next task. As Donald Trump arrives to give tell the teams about the upcoming challenge, Joan was still not there. Joan Rivers Comes BackNot long after Trump started talking, however, Joan came in. She excused her tardiness by saying her cab was late. She tells the camera privately that her team, "should not suffer because of something personal." The teams received their next challenge. They will write an original jingle and 30-second radio spot for Chicken of the Sea. They are to create new lyrics and tune, but keep at least part of the lyrics from the original jingle. Advantage: Clint BlackInstantly, Brande and Annie realized they are at a disadvantage. After all, Clint Black is on KOTU and he's a Grammy-winning musical artist. However, Brande and Annie are determined to do their best. They meet with the Chicken of the Sea executives, who reveal that women are the decision makers for buying their product, and if they had threw key words to describe their product it would be: natural, healthy, and convenient. Brande and Annie talk to Don Trump, Jr. about their struggles. Annie has written a jingle but is not confident she can beat Clint. Brande did the work for the commercial, including voice over. Clint Black In the StudioClint is relieved to be able to go into the studio again. Of all the tasks, he says this one will be his favorite. Clint starts songwriting and playing with the word naturally. Within minutes he has the jingle written. Joan and Jesse want the faster version of the song but Clint nixes it for slower version. Ivanka steps in and says the jingle sounds classic but not contemporary. Jesse and Joan work on the commercial. He hired two voice over talents to read the copy, but in the end decide they will do it themselves. They settle on a comedy-style commercial that is animated and informative. Chicken of the Sea Executives Judge the JinglesAnnie gives the presentation for Athena. The jingle is sung live for the executives, and after, the radio commercial is played. As Annie walks off the stage, the jingle is played as she exits. On KOTU, Jesse introduces Clint, who performs the jingle live. The radio spot with Jesse and Joan is played. Chicken of the Sea executives liked that Athena's jingle hit all the criteria required and was catchy. They liked that the jingle mentioned fresh, fast, and convenient. One criticism was that they mentioned that it came in cups but didn’t mention the pouches. They liked KOTU's focus on the word natural, and loved the comedy that Joan and Jesse did for the radio commercial. However, they felt Clint's take on the jingle was a little too "country," which has a small demographic. Final Four Become Final TwoTeam Athena, against all odds, wins the task! Annie's jingle beat out Clint's, and she will get an additional $20,000 for her charity. Annie breaks down at the news. Trump asks Jesse and Joan who he should fire, but Clint's obvious loss in the jingle task makes the choice easy. Clint is fired. Trump tells the final four that he will be firing two more people that night. Piers Morgan steps in to interview the contestants. Piers likes Annie and Joan, but thinks that Brande and Jesse should go. Trump has his own views about this subject, but ultimately comes to the same conclusion. Joan and Annie are in the final two. Next week: A live three-hour finale, as the contestants perform the toughest task yet.
