The CW Network's Horror-Reality Series Nears the End of Season One

13: Fear is Real whittles down its cast to three survivors this week. Two contestants go home while the rest will face off in next week's season finale.

This week’s show begins with five remaining cast members lounging around an abandoned slaughterhouse.

After Rodney failed to take full advantage of the death box and was prematurely eliminated, Erica assumed the role of killer last week and claimed her first victim, ghost hunter Cody.

Because they have become close friends, Erica says she will not kill off Melyssa, preferring instead to take out another one of the guys.

But when Ted comes to Erica with a proposition – that he help her use the death box against Adam – Erica lies and says she is not the killer.

A Short-Lived Alliance is Formed

Angry that Erica lied to him, Ted tells Adam about his plan to set him up. Adam gasps, perhaps surprised at finding out that Erica is the killer (or maybe he’s shocked that he wasn’t set up since he’s clearly the weakest cast member left and would be the easiest for the killer to eliminate).

The following portion of the show follows the three remaining men sticking together, since contestants can only be taken out by the killer when they are completely alone.

Watch as they hang out in a group, take naps in a group, go to the bathroom in a group, and even shower in a group. This week just gets more and more awkward to watch.

Adam peeks his head into Erica’s room and hints that he knows she’s the killer with the not so subtle message, “I know something bad. Scary bad.”

Then, in perhaps the strangest two minute sequence in the series, Adam tells Ted and Nasser that he doesn’t want to shower with them. Ted and Nasser, according to Adam, like to shower together in their bathing suits, but he wants to wait until they’re done to take his shower.

In a very groan-inducing moment, Adam suddenly realizes that he left his boxer briefs in his room and, being the genius contestant that he is, runs back to the room by himself and promptly gets killed by Erica.

Ted says it best when he hears Adam screaming from down the hall: “You’re so stupid.”

Escaping the Ritual Competition

With only four cast members left, the Mastermind tells the two guys and two gals to go downstairs for the week’s ritual.

Unbeknownst to him, Ted foreshadowed the competition earlier in the show when he mentioned that the slaughterhouse was driving him nuts and that he should be in a straightjacket.

So when figures emerge from the darkness and force the contestants into straightjackets, one would think Ted would be least surprised. However, Ted and Melyssa display a complete lack of Houdini-like skills and fail to escape in time.

Now, the two contestants who have never been to an execution ceremony must compete against each other to survive.

Execution Ceremony, Week 7

The execution ceremony takes place in a makeshift junkyard, where Melyssa and Ted are rudely shoved into the trunks of two cars and the cars placed into compactors. The Mastermind reveals that whoever fails to escape the trunk will be crushed.

A tense several minutes ensue during which Ted and Melyssa kick with their feet and frantically use wrenches to remove nuts from the insides of the trunks. Finally, Ted emerges through the car’s back seat the victor, while Melyssa and her car are allegedly crushed into a cube.

The show is now down to three contestants – Ted, Nasser and Erica. They will compete in the season finale of 13: Fear is Real this Friday at 9/8c.
